The SecureFood Project had the opportunity to actively participate in the 39th EFFoST International Conference, held from 17–19 November 2025 at the Alfândega Porto Congress Centre in Porto. This year’s theme, “Fostering the Transition to Sustainable Food Systems: Embracing Novelty and Overcoming Challenges,” provided the perfect context for discussing critical issues such as food system resilience, sustainability, data-driven innovation, and waste reduction.

SecureFood was present at the EU Collaboration Corner, alongside several European projects working on complementary aspects of food sustainability, digital transformation, and food system governance. Throughout the conference, we engaged with a wide range of participants, including researchers, policy-makers, industry professionals, and representatives from European initiatives.

The other projects present at the EU Collaboration Corner included TITAN, FoodDataQuest, Data4Food2030, CATALYSE, SciFoodHealth, GIANT LEAPS, ReLEAF, IMPRESS, and VIIAFOOD.

A key highlight of the event was the presentation delivered by Daniela Correia from the partner organisation MC Sonae on “Integrated tools for reducing food loss and waste: insights from the SecureFood Project.” The session attracted interest from both academic and industry participants. It provided an opportunity to further discuss the role of digital monitoring, predictive analytics, and data-enabled decision-making in reducing food waste and improving supply chain performance.

Alongside SecureFood, representatives from the Precious, Wasteless, and ToNoWaste EU-funded projects also presented their approaches to tackling food loss and waste through innovative solutions. These sessions showcased complementary strategies, from food system modelling and consumer behaviour insights to circular economy approaches and collaborative frameworks.

Overall, SecureFood’s presence at EFFoST 2025 enabled valuable exchanges on how to support the transition to more adaptive, efficient, and secure food systems. The event provided a strong platform for exploring potential collaborations, contributing to collective knowledge, and engaging in meaningful dialogue on food system resilience. We look forward to continuing these conversations and building on the connections established during EFFoST 2025.
