SecureFood’s 3rd plenary meeting in Chania, Crete marked 18 months of progress in building resilient food systems, with partners sharing key updates, pilot insights, and collaborative tools
Back in mid-June, the SecureFood consortium was thrilled to have gathered together in the beautiful location of Chania, Crete for the 3rd plenary meeting of SecureFood, representing a key milestone as we crossed the crucial 18-month point of our work. We were warmly welcomed by EMPRACTIS and Galanakis Laboratories, who perfectly set the tone for a productive and engaging plenary meeting.
Over two intensive days of dynamic work package updates, presentations, and workshops, our partners from across Europe came together to assess the project’s progress, to exchange knowledge, and to plan our next steps for this ambitious project as a consortium.
Sharing Knowledge, Shaping Tools
Day 1 focused on research outcomes and technical updates, including SecureFood’s reference architecture and new publications that explore vulnerabilities in the food system. A highlight of the first day was the collaborative workshop on the SecureFood Living Lab and SecureFood School – two key outreach tools designed that are being designed to engage stakeholders and foster interactive learning across the entire food value chain.
Day 2 featured technical sessions and pilot case insights from Dr. Evita Agrafioti of EMPRACTIS, covering the practical application of SecureFood’s tools across sectors like grain, dairy, aquaculture, and horticulture. Valuable discussions with our Project Advisory Group also added critical insights and real-world context the work of our project as we progress towards the two-year mark.

Building the Future of Food Resilience
As we wrapped up in Chania, it was clear that SecureFood is moving forward with strong momentum, a shared commitment, and the potential for real impact to strengthen the global food supply chain.
A heartfelt thank you to all consortium members, speakers, and our generous hosts for making this plenary a success!
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue working towards a more resilient, secure, and sustainable food supply chain.
